Thoughts on the Protein’s Native State

چکیده
The presence of metamorphism in the protein’s native state is not yet fully understood. To shed light on this issue, we present an assessment, terms amide hydrogen exchange protection factor, that aims to determine possible existence structural fluctuations native-state consistent with both upper-bound marginal stability proteins and metamorphism. preliminary results enable us conclude is, indeed, more probable than previously thought.

متن کاملCritical Fluctuations in the Native State of Proteins.
Based on protein structural ensembles determined by nuclear magnetic resonance, we study the position fluctuations of residues by calculating distance-dependent correlations and conducting finite-size scaling analysis. The fluctuations exhibit high susceptibility and long-range correlations up to the protein sizes. The scaling relations between the correlations or susceptibility and protein siz...
متن کاملGetting a grip on non-native proteins.
It is an underappreciated fact that non-native polypeptides are prevalent in the cellular environment. Native proteins have the folded structure, assembled state and cellular localization required for activity. By contrast, non-native proteins lack function and are particularly prone to aggregation because hydrophobic residues that are normally buried are exposed on their surfaces. These unstab...
متن کاملCommon attributes of native-state structures of proteins, disordered proteins, and amyloid.
We show that a framework derived from the common character of globular proteins can be used to understand the design of protein sequences, the behavior of intrinsically unstructured proteins, and the formation of amyloid fibrils in a unified manner. Our studies provide compelling support for the idea that protein native-state structures, the structures adopted by intrinsically unstructured prot...
